St. Jude School Health Department has a full-time nurse
serving the children and staff each day school is in session.
Hello, Thank you for choosing St. Jude School for your child's education. My name is Mrs. Sandra Snyder, better known as Nurse Sandi. I came to St. Jude School 7 years ago after working for 45 years at Abington Hospital in the Trauma Center and Physician Network. I often say St. Jude School is my Happy Place! I look forward to working with you to support your children so they are safe, healthy, and ready to learn. I feel honored and blessed to spend time with your children each school day. Nurse Sandi
School Health Policy
The standing orders from the school district physician state that if a student is sent home from school with symptoms of illness, he/she should remain home for at least 24 hours without symptoms in order to decrease the spread of germs in the school. The physician orders require the following criteria for returning to school.
Fever: (fever guideline for school is 100 degrees or higher). Students may not return to school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
Vomiting: Students may not return to school until they are free of vomiting for 24 hours, their appetite has returned to normal, and they can tolerate a regular diet.
Diarrhea: Students may not return to school until they have been diarrhea-free for 24 hours and their appetite has returned to normal.
General Information
Please notify the school nurse if your child develops a contagious illness that could impact the St. Jude school community. Examples include chickenpox, fifth disease, impetigo, and strep throat.
Changes in your child's health status impact your child's school day. When parents communicate pertinent health information, I can better care for their child's needs. Concussions, surgeries, fractures, sprains, emotional wellness issues, and acute or chronic illnesses are some examples of concerns to share with the school nurse.
Please note that a physician's order is necessary for any medication given to your child. Also, if any treatment, such as crutches, wheelchair use, or special medical treatment, is needed during the school day, a physician's order is required.
A physician's note is required for an absence of three consecutive days.
Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast before school. It is also essential to encourage planty of physical activity.
