My name is Mrs. Jeanne Calhoun and I am beginning my 12th year as the librarian at St. Jude School. Previously, I taught Pre-K, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grade. I hold a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Gwynedd Mercy University.
I believe that as a librarian, my job is two-fold. First and foremost, I want to encourage my students to develop a lifelong love of reading. Research shows that students who read for pleasure consistently score higher on different types of tests, show fewer signs of stress and depression, have slightly larger total brain area, and sleep better than children who do not read for pleasure.** I work to maintain a relevant collection of varied genres that will appeal to students in Preschool to 8th grade. The other aspect of my job involves providing guidance to our students as they develop research skills, by teaching them how to navigate the numerous resources available in our library and online and to find credible information which they can use to learn more about the world around them.
I believe in the importance and value of Catholic education especially in today’s world, and I am proud to be part of the dedicated and compassionate faculty and the vibrant community of children and parents that make up St. Jude School.
